Eyelid surgery has become quite popular in the last couple of years. It can help you enhance your appearance, boost your self-esteem, and prevent you from looking tired and old. But, before you begin with this medical procedure, you should be realistic about the results because eyelid surgery won’t reduce wrinkles or eliminate dark circles or lift sagging brows, nor will it erase the evidence of ethnic heritage.
However, Asian women tend to think differently. Even though they aren’t trying to erase their ethnical heritage, they still want to achieve that westernized look with big eyes.
When we are talking about the Asian population in the U.S., one of the reasons they undergo eyelid surgery is because they want to feel more accepted.
The golden state of transformations
In California, groups of all ethnicities tend to use cosmetic surgery a lot because they want to achieve a Caucasian standard of beauty. For example, Jewish women resort to nose job along with the African American, who also reduce their lips and lighten their skin.

Even though we live in an era where people tend to celebrate multiculturalism, these types of procedures suggest otherwise. Women still want to erase physical characteristics that identify them as part of one nation and see these features as negative ones.
For Asians, eyelid surgery is a particularly dramatic example. In the last couple of years, the number of eyelid surgeries has increased significantly among the Asian population in the U.S. However; the numbers are highest are in California.
Unfortunately, many Asian-American women feel the pressure to assimilate into white culture. However, what’s strange is that older Asian women pressure their children to assimilate.
The eyelid surgery is often criticized as self-mutilation
Double eyelid surgery is considered unnatural, and people who do this procedure are engaging in an Asian-based beauty myth. For that reason, many critics consider this a self-mutilation, and it’s a sad fact that many parents are injecting these ideas into their children’s heads.
Also, many critics claim that it’s heartbreaking that many young girls don’t possess a cultural pride, and in some way, they are ashamed of their appearance.
On the other hand, a lot of Asian-Americans still support the idea of double lids because they are beautiful and help them maintain their cultural identity, while single-lids are ugly and imposed by beauty standards in Hollywood.

You often see in media big blue-eyed blonds, and for Asians that is the ideal look, they all want to achieve. In the U.S., even more than in Asia, you will find a lot of young girls, and even movie stars who want to pose themselves as Caucasians.
For example, you have Lucy Lie, who often states that she is an Asian American model and actress. Considering that most models are western, this is the reason why so many young girls want to look like these models.
However, when it comes to eyelid surgery, it’s up to you and your personal reference. But, one thing is inevitable; a lot of Asians can withstand the pressure of western civilization.
